So what is our ultimate purpose?
by Kathryn Marcellino, OCDS

In the 1950s when I was a child, we memorized catechism questions and answers as part of our religious training. The old Baltimore Catechism #1 had a question, which was, "Why did God make you?" The answer was, "God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in Heaven." This sums up, in a short sentence, the reason for our existence and our ultimate purpose and meaning of our lives. We also learned that in order to love God we must first know Him... and that is part of what we will be doing in this lesson, taking time to get to know more about God.
